The Food Allergy Support Group of Minnesota takes pride in dispensing accurate, up-to-date information. We work closely with two local allergists and a dietitian in order to sustain this standard. Our medical advisors

Review and approve website links and documents that contain medical information
Review and approve materials included in our lending library
Review and approve other medical-related materials distributed by FASGMN
Review and approve speakers bureau presentations
Advise the board of directors as needed.
Provide medical information to the media as needed.

Thomas Helm, MD

Dr. Helm practiced general pediatrics for 10 years before doing a fellowship in Allergy at the University of Minnesota. He has practiced allergy since 2001. With his pediatric background he sees predominately children. He has developed an interest in food allergies early in his allergy career. He has been associated with the Food Allergy Support Group of MN since its inception and is presently the medical advisor to the group. Dr. Helm has served on the group’s board over the past 4 years. He is a regular speaker for the group.

Allan Stillerman, MD

Dr. Allan Stillerman graduated from Medical School in Johannesburg, South Africa, completing an Internship in Internal Medicine. He immigrated to the US in 1977 and completed an Internship in Pediatrics at Children's Hospital of Michigan; Residency in Pediatrics Michael Reese Hospital, Chicago and; Combined Fellowships at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Allergy and Clinical Immunology; Pediatric Pulmonary Diseases and Pediatric Clinical Pharmacology. He is Board Certified by American Board of Allergy and Immunology and by American Board of Pediatrics.

Practice: Allergy & Asthma Specialists, PA. Minneapolis Plymouth and Maple Grove and Clinical Research Institute in Minneapolis and in Plymouth. He is Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine, University of Minnesota, Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care.

Practices, lectures and researches extensively on asthma, food allergy and environmental allergy. He has conducted medically supervised Oral Food Challenges evaluating allergic reaction to/tolerance of food since 1987.

Janelle Peterson, RD, LD, CNSD

Janelle has been a registered dietitian for the past 21 years and is licensed as a dietitian in the state of MN. She has worked in the pediatric population for all 21 years. She works at Pediatric Home Service in Roseville, MN where she works with children with chronic illness and helps provide education for families who have a child with food allergies. She is involved in the American Dietetic Association, American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, serves as Vice Chair for the MInnesota Board of Dietetics and Nutrition, and is involved in the American Society of Pediatric Nurses in Gastroenterology and Nutrition. In her spare time, Janelle enjoys watching her 3 boys in their various activities, giving of her time at her church, and also being involved for the past 14 years with Race for the Cure-Minnesota. Janelle is excited to serve the group however she can and looks forward to meeting the families.
